In 1968 two new residents to the town put an advertisement in the local paper to see what interest there was in forming a Bridge club. 16 people answered the advert and a meeting was arranged in the basement of an interested person's home. After a few weeks of tuition and with the expertise of 2 members from an Auckland Bridge Club The Mahurangi Bridge Club was formed and we continued to play in the basement of two different homes for some time.
As interest grew and we gained more members we shifted to bigger venues until the Rodney District Council granted us a lease in the old Town Library Building in 1996 where we still are today. This same year the name was changed to the Warkworth Bridge Club.
We became affiliated to the N.Z.C.B.A. in 1990.
1991 saw the start of the Club's January Tournament held at Totara with 25 tables.
Warkworth Bridge Club is affiliated to the New Zealand Bridge Association. We run 4 sessions a week and offer masterpoints. We also offer education programmes for beginners through to intermediate players, and welcome those wanting to learn bridge, please go to the "learn" tab on the home page for more details.
